PART Begins Service in Yadkin County

By Lisa O'Donnell, Winston-Salem Journal

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

The area's regional bus system began weekday commuter service in western Yadkin County yesterday.

Yadkin County residents can park their vehicles at two temporary lots -- at Stuckey's Travel Station at the intersection of Asbury Church and Rocky Branch roads and the Colonial Shoppes on U.S. 601 in Yadkinville -- and ride a bus from the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation into Forsyth County.

The buses are making nine stops in Winston-Salem, including Hanes Mall, Forsyth Medical Center, Five Points and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Buses leave the lot on Asbury Church Road three times in the morning and at noon.

U.S. 421 in Yadkin County is one of 10 corridors that PART identified as needing an express route. These corridors connect outlying areas to urban centers.

In July, Brent McKinney, the executive director of PART, said that the Yadkin route could open the way for a possible stop in Lewisville in the future.

One-way fares on express routes are $2, and monthly passes are $50. Monthly passes will increase to $60 on Jan. 1.
